Thom Shepherd is an Austin, Texas-based singer/songwriter who spent many years writing songs in Nashville. As a motivational speaker and performer he will add a nice quality and personal touch to your event.
Many people are first introduced to Thom by one of the long list of songs that he has written, but were recorded and released by other artists. He is the writer of the #1 singles “Redneck Yacht Club”, recorded by Craig Morgan, and “Riding with Private Malone” recorded by David Ball. He wrote the title track of Tracy Lawrence’s Grammy nominated album “The Rock,” and the #1 Josh Abbott and Pat Green single, “My Texas.” Kevin Fowler recorded two of Thom’s songs, taking “Beer Season” to #1 for three weeks and “Cheaper To Keep Her” to #3 on the Texas Music Chart. He wrote the 2011 GMA Canada Song and Video of the year for High Valley’s recording of “A Father’s Love (The Only Way He Knew How).”
Thom has had over 10 singles and had over ninety cuts by artists including Easton Corbin, Colt Ford, Bucky Covington, George Jones, Trailer Choir, Montgomery Gentry, Buddy Jewell, and Cledus T. Judd.
After years of living in Nashville, Thom relocated to Texas in 2011 to pursue a full time touring career. “I’ve always written songs so that I could perform them live on stage,” he says. “It’s always exciting when someone else records one of my songs, but there is no greater feeling than connecting with an audience.“ His current single is “Band Aid On A Bullet Wound”
Thom’s story is one of humble beginnings and enduring adversity in the music business. As a cancer survivor, Thom shares his story of overcoming the odds and doing what he loves to do. He will make you appreciate your own challenges and share his songs that reflect the experiences that made him the great songwriter he has become.
His music has taken him on 9 tours performing for our military in 17 different countries.
He was born in St. Louis, Missouri and spent his high school and college years in Stephens City, Virginia. He is a graduate of George Mason University and moved to Nashville in 1993. He has written for 5 different music publishers over the years and is constantly on the road performing. He is a two time cancer survivor, a father of two, a full time songwriter and touring performer, and the proud owner of a ’51 Studebaker Champion.
